Viva L'Afrique!

To Africa and Back

Sightseeing STA-style

Out of curiosity – especially after complaining about pushy travel agents – I began browsing through some of STA’s trips. Not necessarily for my own trip . . . but maybe for my own trip.

I was right. They’ve eliminated the Tanzania tour to Ngorongoro and Masai Mara. Last year, the 7-day trip was only about $700, including most meals and all admissions into game reserves. I don’t even see anything like it on their website anymore.

As unfortunate as all of this is, some good did come of it. I was curious about the Sightseeing tab. Turns out, it’s a bit like the Tours and Treks tab except that it’s for day and half-day tours. Most of the trips are between 40 USD and 80 USD (not including meals,) so it’s definitely something to take into consideration when choosing a city.

The Madrid day trip sounds amazing. There’s a wonderful day trip from Rome to the Amalfi Coast . . . the only problem is, these tours make me wonder if I’d be happy with so many people on a trip that’s really a celebration of traveling alone.

On a side note, I found a great Cape Town volunteer tour that works with sharks. It’s a 7-day tour, so it’s definitely not for this trip; however, I shared it with a friend. It’s only about 800 USD which seems like a very reasonable volunteer tour.

Especially if you don’t have to pay the 500 USD Tanzanian tourist visa.
